  • COMMON QUESTIONS
How are they transported?

GlassBlock windows need to be carried upright.

What is the weight?

GlassBlock windows weigh approx. 16 lb. Per square foot. A basement window would weigh approx. 65 lb.. Large windows can be made in multiple sections.

What sizes are available?

GlassBlock windows are made on every even 2" increment finishing approx. 1/4" less than the nominal size.

How do you determine what size blocks are used?

The size of the window determines the size of the blocks used, giving a balanced layout.
How are the windows installed?

GlassBlock windows can be installed on wood using the same methods as other                       replacement windows, treating the window as one piece of insulated glass.

GlassBlock windows can also be installed into the masonry opening using mortar.

Although glass blocks have been around since the 1930s, the various new sizes of the blocks now allow for custom sized fabrication. Like other replacement windows,GlassBlock windows are pre-made; saving time and money. GlassBlock windows are assembled using the proven method and strength of a solid masonry construction versus the use of plastic spacers or silicone strips. They are also reinforced in the bed joint with steel penrod, and banded with polypropylene strapping giving added security. Although glass blocks are very difficult to break, the partial vacuum will cause it to implode if broken sounding like a gun shot, deterring potential break-ins.
